facts of the father

They say he is the man

so he must do and be everything

even that which he can't

They say he is the head

so he must lead 

even through the 

valleys of the dead

They say he is the husband

so he must be the first to stand

and always open his hand 

Again they say he is the father

He must therefore see farther

and be to the future of his children 

the most reliable ladder

All these he is and does

without noise - 

But since too low is his voice

lost is his recognition

All these he is and does

behind and through his she

But since he's often off to hunt

lost is his recognition...
